Building DEIB at Beebe

Welcome to “Building DEIB at Beebe” where we share the foundational elements of our strategy, as well as updates and opportunities for community engagement. For years, Beebe has embraced outreach efforts to hire a strong and diverse team of professionals, engaged in internal activities to cultivate a welcoming culture, and focused on providing quality medical services to our growing, diverse community. What is new is our articulation of a business strategy to frame our work and inform our stakeholders.

Beebe’s DEIB Commitment Statement

Beebe is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion & belonging – for the benefit of our people, our culture, our patients, and our community.

VISION: To thrive as an Employer & Partner of Choice by building diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) within Beebe Healthcare and our community.

MISSION: We will collaborate to implement a long-term DEIB strategy that fosters an inclusive culture, bolsters Beebe’s results and growth, improves patient outcomes, creates and sustains high-performance teams, and advances our position as a community leader.

As an organization focused on patient care and health equity, we are committed to DEIB – for our people, our culture, our patients, and our community. We affirm the significance of every individual without regard to their background or demographic status and we recognize the organizational benefits that diversity (broadly defined) brings to our workplace. We realize that the societal history of racism and discrimination has led to exclusion and health disparities, which we strive to overcome daily. We aspire to ensure that all people in Sussex County have a fair and just opportunity to access our healthcare and attain their highest level of health.  We develop programs based upon patient centricity that are inclusive of all people. Our institutional Values are reflected in our decisions and interactions. That’s why our Values have long included treating each individual with respect and dignity, building trusting relationships with compassion and kindness, and achieving amazing accomplishments through exceptional teamwork.

When it comes to building DEIB at Beebe, we ALL play a role!

Our leaders are committed to DEIB

“Diversity is important in healthcare because having a diverse team allows Beebe to better meet the needs of our patients and team members on many levels of care and collaboration. Our staff members bring their own experiences to this mission, delivering care that understands a patient’s background and life experiences.”

- David Tam, MD, Beebe President & CEO
“Driving DEIB within Beebe will help us build high-performance teams, foster creativity, improve business results and growth, improve patient outcomes and retention, and help attract – and retain – top talent. I am thrilled to have Elizabeth Campbell lead this work. Her experience and expertise in these areas will greatly benefit Beebe as we continue to grow to meet the needs of Sussex County’s diverse and expanding population.”

-Ashley Foster, MBA, Senior Vice President, Chief People Officer
“I am excited to work for an organization that has top-level commitment to DEIB. Beebe leadership recognizes that long-term strategic efforts can create an equitable and inclusive culture with beneficial outcomes for our people, our patients, and our community. The scope of our DEIB strategy is broad and we have defined key terms to ensure greater understanding and to facilitate implementation. When it comes to DEIB at Beebe, we ALL play a role!”

-Elizabeth Campbell, JD, Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB)

Defined broadly, the collective mixture of similarities and differences

Equity
Beyond equality; the result of sustained Diversity and Inclusion efforts to ensure access to and fairness in processes and programs

Inclusion
Is for everyone--intentional actions to ensure different perspectives are represented in decision-making processes.

Belonging
The feeling we all want, in a culture resulting from DEI efforts, where everyone feels safe to share their authentic selves, and empowered to contribute their best.
