BASEMENT CLASSROOM, MHR LEWES CAMPUS, 424 SAVANNAH ROAD, LEWES

As part of Beebe Healthcare’s mission to encourage healthy living and prevent illness, educators will be providing free community CPR classes.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is carried out when a person’s heart stops or fails to supply enough oxygen and blood flow to the tissues of the body. Studies have shown that if CPR is started within a few minutes, the person has a better chance of survival without serious damage to the brain or other organs.

The classes will be held at 9 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month and 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at Beebe Healthcare’s Medical Center in Lewes for non-medical members of the community. The class includes facilitation by a trained volunteer and a small reference book. This is not a full-certification CPR class and cards are not issued.

The course teaches adult hands-only CPR, child CPR, infant CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED) use, and what to do when someone is choking. The course is a combination of video lecture and hands-on practice with mannequins – dummies made specifically for medical education.

While the class is free, a reservation is required. Each class will last about two hours.
