Cancer Survivors

Lisa Parker

At age 40, Lisa Parker did not expect to be diagnosed with breast cancer. It was especially hard on her 9-year-old son Joshua. Yet, both he and her 14-year-old daughter Tori helped her as much as they could. Joshua and his school counselor even organized a hat and scarf party with the help of Lisa's friend Pat Smith.

"About 30 of my friends came, each one bringing hats and scarves for me to wear after I lost my hair," she said, stressing how much Pat supported her, such as taking her to her doctor appointments and helping her with her children.

Lisa's cancer allowed her to discover that so many people around her are caring, including people she works with at the Sussex County Sheriff's office in Georgetown where she is office manager. Her mother and father Beverly and Otis Parker were wonderful. "Being diagnosed with cancer definitely shows your strengths and weaknesses and that the love around you is so important. I don't know what I would have done without so much support."
