Nancy Grimm Breast Cancer Survivor

Nancy Grimm was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in 1999, a difficult diagnosis for most people to face. "God will never leave us or forsake us; He'll be with us through all our trials," says Nancy, a woman of spiritual determination. She believes that fighting cancer is a team effort, and she cites friends, family, and Tunnell Cancer Center staff as members of her team. Her coaches are her son Carl and his partner Ernie. "They seemed to know just when to take charge or how much space I needed, and they still do."

Nancy also belongs to Cancer In Common, a support group for staying connected with others who are in all stages of the cancer battle. She keeps a notebook of questions for her doctors. "Take charge of the cancer; don't let it own you," she says. "And each day embrace life and have purpose in every step."
