Liberty Timmons Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Survivor

A diagnosis of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at age 30 didn't slow down Liberty Timmons of Laurel. In 2006, even as she was going through chemotherapy, she raced her gelding Cutter in the International Barrel Racing Association East Coast finals in Tennessee.

Liberty, whose Sussex County family dates back generations, doesn't give in easily. "I'm a Beebe baby and I grew up at my family's Pier Point Marina in Dewey." Her mother, Carla Rickards, stayed by her side throughout her cancer treatments.

Liberty has kept involved in barrel racing events and in several related organizations. She takes care of her four horses and has continued to train other people's horses. Liberty works at the Selbyville Pet & Garden Center, a 50-year-old business owned by the Lynch family.
