William Lecates
Prostate Cancer Survivor

As Bill Lecates began his radiation treatments at Tunnell Cancer Center, he discovered that the radiation therapist, Alygia Lopez, was a softball enthusiast. She had played ball at George Mason University and still plays on an adult league team.

Bill, a Sussex Central High School softball coach, immediately developed a rapport with Alygia, and the two began swapping softball tales.

Bill also had a college background of playing ball. He has been inducted into the Delaware University Hall of Fame, the Delaware Hall of Fame, and the Eastern Shore Hall of Fame.

Bill and Alygia both have daughters who are softball enthusiasts. Bill’s daughter, Betsy, was the 2000 Delaware High School Player of the Year and Alygia’s daughter plays travel ball and looks forward to competing in softball at Sussex Tech.
