Greg Lock Neck Cancer Survivor

When Greg Lock retired in 2002, he and his wife Kathy thought they would leave the Washington, D.C., area and retire to a quiet, enjoyable life in Slaughter Beach. They replaced their small cottage with a new, cozy house and Greg did much of the carpentry. Then, in 2008, Greg was diagnosed with neck cancer.

"You never think that this will happen to you," he says. Greg takes a day at a time, and he finds enjoyment in his granddaughter Cameron, especially in making furniture for her American dolls, and in helping others. "There's plenty of people who do more than I do." Yet, his friends and neighbors know him for his kindness and for his helping hand, whether it be to help with a screen, fix a piece of broken equipment, or tend to a lawn that needs mowing.
