Hadassah DeJack Breast Cancer Survivor

Hadassah DeJack's world changed when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36. She was a mother, an avid soccer player, and an instructor at Delaware Technical & Community College. She could do anything she wanted. But then, she found the lump.

"You make plans and God laughs," she says. Hadassah brought her certified therapy dog Darwin to Tunnell Cancer Center when she had her treatments. She soon found that Darwin brought joy to other patients, too, and that he was welcomed there. Today, nearly three years later, Hadassah "rolls with the punches" and finds she is more content with her life. She still teaches, and she and Darwin regularly visit retirement homes and other places where they can help make people feel better.
