Rita Hurst Breast Cancer Survivor

A diagnosis in 2004 of breast cancer did not change Rita Hurst's outlook on life. It was something she battled and overcame. The cancer was diagnosed early because she found the lump, which had not been revealed in a mammogram. A consumer safety inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rita focuses on doing the right thing.

"I believe that I help keep our food supply safe," says Rita, who has been an inspector for 26 years and is now a supervisor. When she is not at work, she is spending time with her mother, Mattie Hurst, or being involved in Jehovah's Witnesses, studying the Bible and sharing its lessons with others. "Everyone was supportive of me when I had cancer."
