Physician Informaticist and Support Specialist (Full Time)

Job Type:  Full Time

Works under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Informatics/Education and the CMIO. The primary purpose of the Physician Informaticist & Support Specialist is to develop EMR application training in one on one and group settings for physicians. This training should be based on workflow analysis and evaluation to design. The Physician Informaticicst & Support Specialist will develop and successfully deliver learning solutions across the organization in order to improve efficiency and promote business objectives. As a member of the Clinical Informatics/Education team, this person will provide ongoing support of EMR products and will work with the team in the maintenance and enhancement of EMR software. Manages and helps implement requests for system changes on all assigned modules. Participates in the development and improvement of operational workflow and processes in assigned clinical areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Develops positive working relationships with all departments/managers/physicians and clinicians.
• Oversees creation and management of an on-going provider training program designed to meet organization-wide objectives and specifically the objectives of the electronic healthcare record (EHR) project.
• Serves as the primary liaison to care providers relating to the EMR.
• Provides “at the elbow” support for care providers.
• Proactively identifies provider needs and works to develop solutions to address them.
• Works with care providers to develop effective work flow in specific documentation and order entry modules.
• Creates and maintains the training documentation to meet organization and EMR objectives to ensure care providers are informed of new updates and revision changes.
• Works closely with the CI team to ensure care providers receive requisite and ongoing training relating to the EMR.
• Develops supporting materials, including but not limited to, presentations, hand-outs, training aids, job-site aids, paper and web-based systems documentation.
• Keeps abreast of current developments and trends in the field.
• Keeps abreast with industry publications and leading websites.
• Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
• Provide guidance to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
• Maintains a professional, organized, and clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and acceptable safety standards.
• Works closely with the CI Team to understand EHR application changes and/or new functionality for inclusion into the training curriculum.
• Adheres to accreditation and compliance standards/guidelines.
• Complies with the hospital’s corporate compliance program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
• Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices
• Attends committee, staff and other assigned meetings.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach and facilitate change and innovation.
• Facilitates a multidisciplinary approach to work flow creation.
• Serves as the internal subject matter expert of the EHR regarding product features and capabilities.
• Provides high quality customer service to stakeholders by responding timely and completely to questions and concerns regarding the EHR.
• Ensures that the EHR functions efficiently and effectively by communicating with and receiving feedback from endusers.
• Strong track record of establishing relationships, which facilitate and enhance the image of informatics practice at the organizational level.
• Competent user of Microsoft Office products and experience following project management methods.
• May perform other duties as assigned or requested.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree or University Program Certificate with major focus of study in management information systems, informatics or healthcare. All Candidates must have demonstrable experience in managing a training program, knowledge of structured training concepts and techniques, personal experiences as a training instructor and the confidence and ability to apply this knowledge to technical topics in a medical setting.
• Experience: Professionals without a healthcare-related degree must have direct on-site experience in a clinical setting, of at least two (2) years within the last 6 years, and be very familiar with processes, policies, role expectations and medical vocabulary. Professionals with a healthcare-related degree must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience, at a super-user level of proficiency, with electronic healthcare system(s).
• Interpersonal Skills: Must possess highly developed interpersonal communication skills. Must be a team player and have strong customer service skills.
• Cerner Experience Preferred.
• Experience with current and emerging delivery systems with capability of implementing changes as needed.
• Knowledge base of the regulatory environment for Joint Commission, Core Measure, and Meaningful Use.
