Beebe Medical Foundation’s Holiday of Life Celebration raised more than $20,000 for Women’s Health Services

The first Holiday of Life Celebration, sponsored by Beebe Medical Foundation, raised more than $20,000 to date for Women’s Health Services at Beebe Healthcare, with more donations still coming in. The funds will be used to purchase rocking chairs and bassinettes for mothers and their newborn babies.

“We are thrilled to be the recipient of the generosity of our community and of our Beebe family,” said Bridget Buckaloo, MSN, RNC-OB, Executive Director of Women’s Health Services at Beebe Healthcare. “We are committed to the wellbeing of our moms and their babies and want to make sure that their experience in our Women’s Health Pavilion is a happy and comfortable one that prepares them for when they go home.”

In 2013, Beebe Healthcare was the first hospital in the state of Delaware to receive the designation as a Baby-Friendly™ Hospital, reflecting its commitment to the optimal level of care for infant feeding and mother-and-infant bonding. The designation was launched as part of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) in 1991 by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The December 4 Holiday of Life celebration, formerly known as the Holiday of Lights, gives the community the opportunity to recognize individuals who have touched their lives by purchasing a Luminaria to honor or remember a loved one. In 2014, Beebe Medical Foundation, the fundraising arm of Beebe Healthcare, partnered with Women’s Health Services so as to earmark the donations for one of its programs.
“During the busy holiday season, it is great to pause and reflect quietly to celebrate the lives of our loved ones. I was thrilled to purchase a rocking chair in memory of my mom who I remember fondly rocking her grandchildren,” said Judy Aliquo, President of Beebe Medical Foundation. “All gifts to Holiday of Life will support our Beebe babies.”
Festivities began just after sunset with members of the children’s Keenote Chorale group singing on the front lawn of the Medical Center grounds in Lewes. Parents, friends, neighbors, Beebe employees and other Beebe supporters gathered, with nearly 100 people spread across the grounds.

Following a brief ceremony of speeches, the Christmas tree was lit and people who had purchased luminarias walked around the grounds to light luminaries on which the names of individuals were written. The string of luminaries, together with the lights in the trees, created an inspiring sight. Once the Luminarias were lit, refreshments were served in the Medical Center’s Sunshine Café where Santa Claus made a special appearance.

The names of contributors and those they are recognizing will be published in the Cape Gazette and in the Beebe Medical Foundation’s Annual Honor Roll of Donors. Beebe Medical Foundation was established in 1989 with the sole mission to raise philanthropic support for Beebe Healthcare. Over the past 25 years, it has raised more than $45 million. The Foundation is located at 902 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958. Visit us online at
