Child Abuse Prevention Month 2015
Beginning Friday, April 17, grounds at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes and at the Beebe Health Campus in Rehoboth Beach will be alive with pinwheels spinning in the wind.
Beebe employees will be placing the pinwheels on the grounds to be displayed through the weekend in recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month throughout the United States. Beebe has planned a rain date of Friday, April 24.
Prevent Child Abuse Delaware (PCAD) is leading the charge in Delaware with programs and activities that help recognize the importance of preventing child abuse from ever happening in the first place.
On April 1, PCAD and its partners ushered in Child Abuse Prevention month with the 6th Annual Blue Bow Event. Remarks from the Governor helped to recognize and celebrate the successes and to recognize areas where additional work is needed. In addition to the Blue Bow event PCAD staff and board president, Abigail Layton, participated in a Joint Resolution Ceremony at Legislative Hall.
April 17th is Wear Blue Day, and PCAD is encouraging everyone in Delaware to wear blue as a visible sign of their support for children and their families. If you, your family and friends and/or colleagues wear blue please share a picture with us.
Beebe Healthcare has a Domestic Violence program that includes identifying and treating victims of child, adult and elder abuse. Beebe has had a pediatric forensic program since 2000. Employees receive education to identify patients that have experienced abuse and neglect. Beebe also provides anti-bullying information to local students, teachers and social workers through a variety of educational and prevention programs.
The Pinwheels for Prevention Program will be implemented throughout the month in all three counties. Pinwheel gardens will be planted in schools, hospitals, organizations, and government agencies using the PCAD pinwheel as a visual representation of our shared belief that all children in Delaware have the right to grow up in safe, nurturing homes, free from abuse and neglect.
