The Classic at Baywood Greens to Benefit the Tunnell Cancer Center Announces New Date: May 8, 2017 and Time 11:00 A.M.

The Classic at Baywood Greens will hold its 12th annual tournament this year benefiting Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center. The tournament, traditionally held in June, will feature a new date. This year’s tournament will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Baywood Greens in Long Neck, Delaware.

In years past, the tournament featured a breakfast prior to the start. However, this year’s tournament will start slightly later, with registration beginning at 11:00 a.m. and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Players will be treated to a barbeque lunch featuring hotdogs, hamburgers, fruit, chips, and dessert. Refreshments will be available on the course as well.

The post-golf event will feature a complimentary cocktail hour, buffet dinner featuring braised beef short ribs and herb crusted salmon, and live & silent auctions. New this year, we are happy to invite the spouses, partners, friends of our golfers, residents of Baywood and the larger community to come and support the Tunnell Cancer Center by purchasing happy hour and dinner tickets for just $50. Tickets include drinks, great food, and the opportunity to participate in the live & silent auctions while at the same time, supporting our local cancer center! All the proceeds will go towards the expansion plans of Beebe’s Tunnell Cancer Center.

The committee planners listened to players over the years who have requested the tournament to be held on a Monday with a later start making it easier for scheduling. Players are encouraged to sign up today as the tournament fills up quickly.

Thomas J. Protack, Vice President of Development for Beebe Medical Foundation, shared, “This year the committee selected Mr. Bob Schnepfe as the honorary chairman. Bob is an amazing supporter of Beebe, especially the Tunnell Cancer Center, and is a strong advocate in our community for Beebe Healthcare.” Mr. Schnepfe reflected, “I have had 14 operations at Beebe Healthcare. The first surgery was performed in 2004, and the most recent in February 2016. In 2006, I was diagnosed with appendiceal cancer and at that time, there were only 25 hospitals in the United States that performed operations for this type of cancer. Beebe was one of those hospitals with surgeries being performed by Dr. James Spellman. I am very grateful for the care I continue to receive at Beebe Healthcare and that I am able to lead an active life. I encourage everyone to support our local award winning cancer center and supporting the Baywood Classic by being a sponsor, player, auction donor or coming to the dinner is a great way to do it!”
