Friends of Sussex CASA, Kid’s Ketch, and Beebe Healthcare Partner to Provide Books to Mothers of Substance-Exposed Infants

The Friends of Sussex CASA (FOSC) and Kids’ Ketch gathered for the second year to partner with Beebe Healthcare in a book program.

The books collected are provided to mothers whose babies are being treated for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) at Beebe Healthcare. The group collected 66 copies of “Goodnight Moon.”

“Reading to babies and children helps solidify the bond between parents and children, says Ann Regacho, LBSW, Case Manager with Beebe’s Women’s Health team. “This allows both the mother and the infant to thrive on their road to recovery.”

Beebe Healthcare provides comprehensive and coordinated care to substance-exposed infants and their families. Beebe focuses on keeping the mother and baby together throughout the baby’s hospitalization with the goal of keeping the mother engaged in the care of her newborn. The program also fosters good parenting skills, which can reduce the incidence of abuse and neglect once the newborn is discharged from the hospital. The newborn and their families got through an intensive program with Beebe’s case management team to address their many needs. Beebe also works with community partners and organizations to connect families with a myriad of services aimed at fostering healthy parenting and life success.

This is the second year for the book program, which allows Beebe to partner with Friends of Sussex CASA also known as FOSC and Kids’ Ketch, a children’s store in Lewes, which provides a major portion of the funding for the program.

(“FOSC”) is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide support to the Sussex County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program with local, statewide and national training opportunities for CASAs, and supplemental resources for children and their families.
