Health Services Opening a Festive Event in Millsboro
Despite threatening weather, more than 75 people dropped in for snacks, tours, conversation, and free health screenings during the grand opening festivities in Millsboro for Beebe Medical Center’s new outpatient services and for the new physician offices of Mid-Atlantic Family Practice. The event was a true community one.
These new health services are conveniently located on Route 113 in Millsboro just south of the intersection with Route 24. They include Beebe Walk-In Care, Beebe Imaging and Beebe Lab Express at the front of the renovated building and the physician offices at the rear.
“This expansion of healthcare services to Millsboro marks a milestone for Beebe Medical Center in our effort to keep people healthy in Sussex County,” said Jeffrey M. Fried, FACHE, President and CEO of Beebe Medical Center. Mr. Fried welcomed all who were attending the event and acknowledged several people including local leaders Millsboro Vice Mayor John Thoroughgood and Town Manager Faye Lingo.
“We are pleased that we can work together with Millsboro and Mid-Atlantic Family Practice to bring cost-effective health care to the community.”
Family practitioner Jeffrey Heckert, MD, FAAFP, CEO of Mid-Atlantic Family Practice, noted the synergy between his group and the Beebe outpatient services and called them “a real medical home.”
“We saw an opportunity to bring much needed medical services to Millsboro,” he said. Mid-Atlantic Family practice started on Route 24 in Lewes in 2004 with 3 physicians and now will soon have 11 providers between the offices in Lewes and the new office in Millsboro. “We are glad to have been able to provide all these services through the collaboration with Beebe. It is so important to have a strong hospital in our community.”
Dr. Heckert recalled that the building was in need of repair when Mid-Atlantic found it. He thanked those who made the renovations possible including: Artisan Bank, Moonlight Architecture and builders Ron and Donna Coffin. Beebe Walk-In Care is open seven days a week, Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Health providers will be available to treat patients with a variety of minor issues such as:
· Sore throats, laryngitis, allergies, and sinus infections
· Flu and flu symptoms
· Headaches and stomach aches
· Ear aches and bladder infections
· Minor cuts and simple lacerations
Health providers also can provide limited medication refills.
Beebe Imaging services at the location will include X-ray and mammography. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 6 a.m. to noon. No appointments are necessary for X-rays. Appointments are required for mammography; however, appointments are generally available quite quickly.
Beebe Lab Express offers blood draw, specimen collection and EKG services Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 6 a.m. to noon. No appointments are necessary for lab services.
Beebe Rehab Services, which include physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology, remain available at 232 Mitchell Street in Millsboro, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Beebe Medical Center also is in the midst of expanding the outpatient healthcare services that it already offers in Georgetown, Millville and Milton. It is doing this by creating working relationships with local physicians, business owners, developers, and others to build new facilities and to expand existing facilities.
