Beebe Healthcare Announces David Herbert as New Chairman of the Beebe Board of Directors; Terry Megee as Vice Chairman
Submitted by Rachel on
At its October 27 meeting, the Beebe Board of Directors named David Herbert Chairman of the Board. The Board also named Terry Megee as the Vice Chair.
Mr. Herbert replaces the Honorable William Swain Lee, who has served as Chairman for the past seven years. Judge Lee will continue to serve on the Board of Directors.
“I am honored and excited to take on this new role,” Mr. Herbert said. “My background is in quality and safety management and I look forward to the continuous improvement of our services here at Beebe. This is an exciting time for Beebe as we plan for the next generation. Our expansion plans include increased access to services in the Millville area with a satellite cancer center and emergency department; additional surgery space at Route 24 near Rehoboth Beach where we can offer surgical patients a shorter stay and a quicker return to their lives; and, here in Lewes, we are excited to bring state-of-the-art cardiac and vascular care as well as a dedication to private rooms in a new wing of the medical center.”
“I want Beebe to be not only the best healthcare provider in Sussex County, but the best provider in Delaware and on the Delmarva Peninsula,” said Mr. Herbert. “We have great nursing, the top doctors, and advanced technology to serve those who live, work, and visit our beautiful region.”
Mr. Herbert joined the Board of Directors in October 2012. He became the Vice Chair in May 2016 and Chairman in October 2017. He became involved with Beebe as a community member on the Quality and Safety and Root Cause Analysis Committees in April 2007. His past experience includes serving as a leader of DuPont's consulting division on safety, which included working with more than 100 major corporations around the world, in the areas of quality and safety.
“I am proud to pass the baton onto Mr. Herbert,” said Judge Lee. “I will remain on the Board of Directors, and am looking forward to having some more free time. It has been an honor to serve the Board for the past seven years. I can say that there were many challenging times, but in the end, we did everything we needed to do to keep Beebe here for the community and without compromising the healthcare provided here. I look forward to a very exciting future here as we make plans for the next generation of care.”
William Swain Lee joined the board in October 2000. He became Vice Chair in October 2005 and Board Chairman in October 2010, serving for seven years.
Terry Megee was named Vice Chair of the Beebe Board of Directors. He has served on the Board since October 2014. Mr. Megee is the President of Megee Motors. He has served on the Indian River School Board, was Vice President of Georgetown Little League, and was President of Georgetown Boys & Girls Club from 2002 to 2011. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors for Fulton Bank – Delaware Division and is on the Board of Delaware Auto & Truck Dealers. He was recognized by Time magazine as the 2009 Delaware Dealer of the Year.
“I am honored and excited to serve as Vice Chair for the Board and to continue to serve Beebe Healthcare, our community hospital,” Mr. Megee said. “The health of our community is a reflection of all of us. We need to work together to make sure that everyone has access to quality healthcare. I look forward to the future of Beebe as we work to expand our services throughout Sussex County to serve everyone in the community.”
“Beebe Healthcare is an integral part of our community because our team members – those who come here to work every day – are members of this community. As a team, we live here. We are your neighbors, your family members, and your friends,” said Jeffrey Fried, FACHE, President & CEO, Beebe Healthcare. “It is an honor to continue to improve access to Beebe services and to expand the care we offer by being innovative and bringing the most advanced technologies to Sussex County. I know Mr. Herbert and Mr. Megee will work hard so that Beebe continues to achieve excellence in patient care and service to Delaware and the Delmarva Peninsula.”
