Beebe Healthcare's Tunnell Cancer Center Receives $500 Donation from Local Business

Body Shop Fitness Center of Rehoboth recently donated $500 to Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center. The fundraiser was part of the national No-Shave November campaign, which raises awareness by embracing hair that many cancer patients lose during treatment. Body Shop Fitness Center owner Adam Howard and Coach Bruce Clayton, co-owner of TriCoach, combined forces to offer a free bootcamp to the community this past November in which they raised $500 from the generous donations of participants to benefit prostate cancer. The check was presented to Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center this January by Adam Howard, his wife Leks Howard, RN, a nurse at Tunnell Cancer Center, and Bruce Clayton, co-owner of TriCoach. Ms. Howard is the daughter of Andrejs Strauss, MD, a radiation oncologist at Tunnell Cancer Center.

“My father and father-in-law were both treated at the Tunnell Cancer Center, so I felt this was a great way to give back. My grandfather (Dr. David Howard) was a pediatrician at Beebe; my father-in-law (Dr. Andrejs Strauss) is a radiation oncologist at Tunnell; my wife (Aleksandra Howard) is an RN here; and both of my children were born at Beebe. I have so many wonderful connections with this amazing organization,” said Adam Howard.

“I feel that the people of this community have given me so much to be thankful for, it was a great way to give back to the community, while having a lot of fun at the same time,” said Bruce Clayton. Body Shop Fitness Center check presentation, photo2

Thomas J. Protack, Vice President of Development for the Beebe Medical Foundation, shared, “Beebe is a local non-profit healthcare system, and it means so much when local businesses choose to give the monies from their fundraisers to our cancer center here in Sussex County. Beebe’s Tunnell Cancer Center is a beacon of hope for so many of our family members and neighbors. We appreciate the great efforts of Adam and Bruce to raise the awareness for men’s health, especially as it relates to prostate cancer. We are excited to work closely with the Body Shop as they plan to grow this annual fundraising event even more next year with greater participation. Strong, local community support is essential for Beebe’s continued growth, especially as we look to create the next generation of care and expand our cancer services next year in the Millville and Bethany area.”
