Cocktails Curing Cancer donates $6,500 to Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center

Helping people with cancer has become an important part of life for Lisa Condon. Almost three years after moving to Bethany Beach from Vermont, she started a chapter of the fundraising organization Cocktails Curing Cancer. That was in 2014.
Cocktails Curing Cancer is a 501 (c)(3) founded in Vermont by Renee Dall. Its mission is to support the fight against cancer by raising money for a local organization that helps people with cancer and their caregivers. Lisa’s company, Red Sapphire Consulting, had been the title sponsor for the Vermont organization for the two years before she moved to Delaware.
The organization chose Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center as the recipient of its fundraising because of its unparalleled support of patients and caregivers.
“I started the chapter here as both my parents passed away from cancer, my dad only six weeks after I moved here,” Lisa said. “Both my parents died five weeks after being diagnosed. I never want anyone to endure that, so I am fighting for a cure.”
Cocktails Curing Cancer raises money at elegant cocktail parties with heavy hors d'oeuvres, music, and of course, cocktails. In 2014, an event in the Bethany Beach-area drew 27 people and raised $500 for Tunnell Cancer Center.
In October of 2016, just two years later, 110 people attended a Cocktails Curing Cancer event at DiFebo’s restaurant in Ocean View. The title sponsor was longtime local business Steen’s Beach Services and a total of $6,500 was raised for Tunnell Cancer Center.
“The community support for Cocktails Curing Cancer has been amazing,” Lisa says. “We have grown so much.”
Judy Aliquo, President and CEO of Beebe Medical Foundation shares, “We are so honored to receive this generous support from Lisa and the entire Board from the Cocktails Curing Cancer and look forward to partnering together for many years to come. Its support is so inspiring as those involved honor their loved ones and recognize the great care received at Tunnell. Philanthropy is critical as the Tunnell Cancer Center will be expanding in the near future.”
Lisa, flanked by Cocktails Curing Cancer board members Regina Ashcraft, Christine Bohner, Alana Keeley and Nancy Hoeflich, recently presented a check for $6,500 to Cherrie Rich, RN, MSN, Executive Director of Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center, and Judy Aliquo, President and CEO of Beebe Medical Foundation, the fundraising arm of Beebe Healthcare. Tunnell Cancer Center staff also attended the presentation, together with Tom Protack, Vice President of Development for Beebe Medical Foundation.
“Our board here in Delaware is committed to helping patients at Tunnell and I am so glad that I have met them and been able to work so closely with them,” Lisa said. “Each of us has been touched by cancer in various ways. Regina's father was a patient at Tunnell and passed away in 2015. She loved the way he was treated and how much support was given to her mother.”
Cherrie Rich, RN, MSN, Executive Director of Beebe Healthcare’s Oncology Services, thanked Lisa and the Cocktails Curing Cancer board members for supporting Tunnell Cancer Center. “It is so important for our patients and our staff members to know that those in the communities we serve support Tunnell Cancer Center. Our team is committed to bringing the highest quality of care to our patients and their families and caregivers and is dedicated to working with those in the community whenever possible.”
