Beebe Healthcare announces free online heart health assessment

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of men and women in the United States. In an effort make Sussex County one of the healthiest counties in the nation, Beebe Healthcare announces a new online tool to determine heart attack risk.

Prior to starting the heart disease risk calculator, patients should have pertinent information available, including recent blood pressure, lab results for cholesterol numbers, and weight information.

Beebe offers CT coronary calcium screening

Those with a moderate to high risk of heart disease may be contacted by a Beebe healthcare professional to talk about the next steps. In addition, those taking the profiler will be able to print out their results and take them to their primary care doctor to discuss their risk and how to improve their health. Their doctor may order a computed tomography (CT) coronary calcium scan, which looks at the calcium deposits in the coronary arteries. These deposits can point to an increased risk of heart disease.

Beebe Healthcare offers the calcium screening for those with a moderate to high risk, however, the test must be ordered by a doctor. Patients who do not smoke or have other cardiac risk factors, such as elevated cholesterol or high blood pressure, may not be eligible for the test. In many cases, insurance does not cover the calcium screening, however, Beebe offers the screening for $99, regardless of insurance coverage.

The Heart Health Profiler and coronary calcium scan are two ways Beebe Healthcare is encouraging community members to know their health risks, get screened, and be the healthiest they can be.
