Beebe Healthcare offers life-saving CPR classes for consumers and for medical professionals

The American Heart Association (AHA) reports each year that more than 735,000 people in the United States suffer a heart attack. Of those, about 120,000 die.

About 70 percent of heart attack sufferers are not in a hospital setting where they would receive emergency medical care. Instead, they are at home or in a place where their chance of survival could double or even triple if someone could provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Yet, only 46 percent of these people will receive CPR from a friend, neighbor, family member, or bystander.

The AHA estimates only about 10 percent of people who suffer a heart attack outside a hospital will survive.

Beebe Healthcare, together with the AHA, urges people to learn CPR so they might have the opportunity to save the life of someone suffering a heart attack.

Community CPR

Beebe Healthcare offers free American Heart Association CPR classes for consumers on the second Saturday of each month. The course teaches participants how to give ‘Hands-Only™’ CPR to both adults and children. It also teaches how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), a device found in most public places, and how to relieve both adults and children if they are choking. Choking can be life-threatening. This course is for members of the general public who do not need a course completion card. To register for this class, please call (302) 645-3248.
