Beebe Healthcare to host information session on new pain support group forming in Sussex County

September Declared As Pain Awareness Month

Beebe Healthcare to host information session on new pain support group forming in Sussex County

Governor Jack Markell and Lt. Governor Matt Denn have issued a proclamation recognizing September as Pain Awareness Month.

According to the American Chronic Pain Association:

Pain is a serious public health and economic issue. According to statistics, pain touches everyone:

  • Pain costs $100 billion annually in lost work days, medical expenses and other benefit costs (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health);

  • Pain personally affects one in three people (Partners for Understanding Pain survey);

  • Pain causes more disability than cancer and heart disease combined (National Medical Association).

Integrative Health at Beebe Healthcare has supported the initiation of “Pain Linx” – A Sussex County Chronic Pain Education and Support Group.

The initial meeting will be on Tuesday, September 23 from 3 to 4 p.m. at the McCurry Conference Room, first floor, Medical Arts Building, Route 24 Campus.  Subsequent meetings starting in November will be on the first Monday of each month in the same location.

The guest speaker on Sept 23 will be Cheyenne Luzader, MS, Coordinator of Integrative Health, who will share highlights from her upcoming workshop “Self-Care Strategies for Chronic Pain.” She will also discuss Beebe’s free community classes for the fall.
