Tunnell Cancer Center Annual Report 2009-2010

Tunnell Cancer Center Annual Report 2009-2010

A Place of Giving and Hope

Tunnell Cancer Center is a place of giving and hope, where our physicians, nurses, and staff are supported in their efforts to care for our patients by the patients themselves, their friends, their families, their caregivers, and those in the community who support us for no other reason than because they want to.

There are the formal teams of supporters, those who are Beebe volunteers who share their kindness with patients each day, and the Beebe Auxiliary members who have worked to raise money to help us care for our patients. There are the many donors who have made a difference in the technologies that we can provide our medical team and the services we provide our patients. Then there are the people in the community who bring gifts for our patients or who play the piano in the waiting room.

There are the members of the Jean & Joan Fund, now in its 10th year. The Jean & Joan Fund was established in the memory of Jean James and Joan Martin, two outstanding women who lost their battles against cancer. It has become the official charity of the Kings Creek Country Club, demonstrating its continuing support of local charitable activities. Its mission is to assist needy patients and their families at Tunnell Cancer Center. Over the past 10 years, total contributions made to Tunnell Cancer Center have topped $250,000. They have been used to purchase the Tunnell Shuttle, which is used to transport patients to and from the center, for medical equipment, and to establish the Jean & Joan Fund New Reflections Center at the Tunnell Cancer Center. The Jean & Joan Fund also provided the start-up funding for the Tunnell Cancer Center’s Patient Special Needs Fund, which is used to purchase specific items for individual cancer patients so that they can stay in cancer treatment.

We at Tunnell Cancer Center wish to thank all of you who have made this center the special place that it has become.

For those who would like to support Tunnell Cancer Center financially, donations should be sent to the Beebe Medical Foundation. Tunnell Cancer Center has two funds. The General Fund is used for capital spending on equipment, building projects, and other projects to improve the quality of care. The Cancer Patient Special Needs Fund assists individual patients with limited financial resources who need help in covering emergent expenses such as prescriptions or co-pays for medications, medical supplies (wigs and mastectomy prostheses), nutrition, essential living expenses, and transportation. During the past year $25,000 of this fund was spent to help 30 patients.

There also are other ways to give and ways in which the Foundation can recognize its donors. For more information, please contact Alex Sydnor, Executive Director of the Beebe Medical Foundation, at 302-644-2900.
