Welcome to Beebe Healthcare

Beebe Healthcare serves the Sussex County community with a medical center located in beautiful, historic Lewes, Delaware, and convenient outpatient locations throughout the county. Founded in 1916 by two physician brothers, Drs. James Beebe and Richard C. Beebe, the medical center in Lewes is a 210-licensed-bed, not-for-profit seaside community hospital. Beebe's specialized service lines include cardiac and vascular, surgical services, oncology, women's health, and orthopaedic services. Beebe offers an array of inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and diagnostic services.

"I Believe in Beebe"

Beebe's three satellite campuses offer imaging, physical rehabilitation, and lab services, as well as walk-in care centers. In addition, Beebe offers Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine and Diabetes Management & Medical Nutrition Therapy.

With a mission to serve the community, Beebe also offers many free screenings and outreach programs through its Population Health Department; and advanced medical care for those who are recuperating at home through Beebe Home Care Services.

Beebe has a rich history of educating the next generation of healthcare, offering a nursing program through its over 100-year-old, award winning Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing. We expanded on this tradition in 2022 with the opening of the R. Randall Rollins Center of Medical Education (RRRCME) located in the historic Shaw Building at the Lewes Campus. The RRRCME houses our undergraduate medical education programs, as well as our graduate medical education programs and continuing medical education programs. We welcomed our first class of Family Medicine Residents in July 2023, with plans to expand to more programs in the next five years.

Beebe's Medical Staff has grown tremendously since the early 1990s. Employed physicians through Beebe Medical Group and our affiliated physicians on Beebe's Medical Staff now serve patients from Milford to Millville in specialties including cardiac surgery, dermatology, endocrinology, family practice, gastroenterology, general surgery, internal medicine, pediatric neurology, and surgical oncology.

Beebe is proud to offer quality care, close to home for the residents and visitors of Sussex County.

Mission and Vision

Our Mission

Beebe Healthcare's charitable mission is to encourage healthy living, prevent illness, and restore optimal health with the people residing, working, or visiting the communities we serve.

Our Vision

Our vision is that Beebe Healthcare will be the healthcare system of choice for all people in Sussex County.

Becoming Beebe Healthcare

In 2013, Beebe Medical Center changed its name to Beebe Healthcare, reflecting the expansive community health system that it has become with seven outpatient locations, multiple Beebe Medical Group locations, and a vibrant medical center in downtown Lewes.

Beebe Home Care Services has provided care to people throughout southern Delaware since 1985. And our network of physicians serves patients in multiple locations.

Also this year, Beebe Healthcare opened its Georgetown location which offers Lab Express, Imaging, Walk-In Care, and primary care services, in addition to Physical Rehabilitation Services.

In focus groups that took place in 2012, participants made clear that the term “medical center” did not describe the scope of services and geographic locations that Beebe provides. To better communicate with consumers, the decision was made to update our name while remaining true to our heritage.

“Changing our name is a major milestone in Beebe’s evolution,” says the Honorable William Swain Lee, former Chairman of the Beebe Healthcare Board. “Beebe’s growth into a healthcare system has occurred for years as we’ve taken proactive steps to expand and serve the community. In 1916, Beebe was a two-room hospital. It became a medical center as it grew and offered more medical services. Today, the name Beebe Healthcare signifies a community health system that provides sophisticated medical care across many sites.”

Specialized Care

As the population in southern Delaware has grown, Beebe has expanded its services and the breadth of specialized care. A major addition to our continuum of care was open-heart surgery and interventional cardiology, which began in 2007, and, more recently, we added electrophysiology to correct heart arrhythmias. Today, most heart disease conditions can be treated locally at Beebe.

Since 2011, Beebe Healthcare has been a NICHE Designated Site, providing specialized geriatric care for our patients. The vision of NICHE is for all patients 65 and over to be given sensitive and exemplary care. Our history of compassionate caring and advanced treatment for patients battling cancer at the Tunnell Cancer Center or South Coastal Cancer Center has earned respect and loyalty from our patients and their families. And, the aging population has benefited from award-winning orthopaedic services, including total hip and knee replacements and minimally invasive spinal surgery. For patients with heart disease, Beebe provides accredited cardiac rehabilitation services.

Partnering with the Community

Beebe Healthcare remains an independent community health system with a vision of making Sussex County one of the healthiest counties in the nation. Beebe recognizes that it cannot achieve this goal on its own. Partnerships like the Healthier Sussex County Initiative with Bayhealth and Nanticoke Health Services have been created to help coordinate health promotion and education.

Beebe Healthcare complies with applicable Federal civil rights laws and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex.
