Weight Loss Care—Guided, Supported, and Right Here at Home
At Beebe, weight loss is treated as ongoing medical care, not a quick fix. Our team combines deep community care with modern treatments, trusted providers, and easy digital access through MyChart.
We know there is no single right path. Some people may benefit from medication. Others may benefit from surgery. Many use both at different stages. What matters most is having a care team that takes time to listen, explains options clearly, and helps guide decisions as needs change.
Start Your Weight Loss Journey
You don’t need a referral to get started. However, we ask all patients to register for our Weight Loss Seminar first.
When Should You Consider Weight Loss Care?
You may want to talk with your care team about weight loss support if excess weight is affecting your health, energy, or daily life. For some, concerns build gradually. For others, a new diagnosis brings weight into focus.
Common reasons people seek weight loss care include:
- Difficulty losing weight through diet and activity alone
- Weight-related health conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease
- Joint pain or mobility concerns
- Sleep problems, including sleep apnea
- A desire for long-term, medically guided support
Our goal is to help you understand your options, reduce health risks, and support progress that can be maintained over time.
Care always begins with assessment and conversation, so treatment plans reflect your health history, goals, and comfort level—today and in the future.

Medical Weight Loss at Beebe
Medical weight loss is a doctor-guided approach to weight management. It focuses on helping patients lose weight safely while improving overall health.
Treatment may include:
- Nutrition and lifestyle guidance
- Monitoring and regular check-ins
- Medications that support weight loss, when appropriate
Some medications, including a group called GLP-1 medications, can help regulate appetite and blood sugar. These medications are not right for everyone. They are used as part of a complete care plan, not on their own.
Medical weight loss is about finding the right balance of support, guidance, and care that works for you.
Is Medical Weight Loss Right for You?
Medical weight loss can be a helpful option for many people, but it is not the same for everyone. Some patients benefit from lifestyle guidance alone. Others may need medication. Some may later consider bariatric surgery.
During your visit, your care team will help you understand:
- What options are available
- How treatment works
- What results to expect over time
- What risks or side effects to consider
The goal is to make decisions together, based on clear information—not pressure or quick promises.
Medical Weight Loss at Beebe: What to Expect
Care begins with conversation and careful planning. Every step is designed to support understanding, safety, and long-term success. Along the way, you should expect:
- Initial evaluation and health review
- Care plan development
- Ongoing monitoring and support
- Medication management, if appropriate
- Follow-up care and adjustments over time
Advanced Weight Loss Surgery—Right Here at Home in Delaware
Bariatric surgery at Beebe offers modern weight loss surgery in Sussex County, Delaware, delivered by our experienced surgeon and supported by nutrition, lifestyle guidance, and long-term follow-up. This is surgical care designed to support lasting change, close to home.
What Is Bariatric Surgery?
Bariatric surgery, also called weight loss surgery, is a medical option for people living with obesity when other approaches have not led to lasting results. These procedures help support weight loss by changing how the stomach processes food and manages hunger.
Surgery is never the first or only step. It is considered after careful evaluation, education, and discussion of medical and non-surgical options. For some patients, surgery works best on its own. For others, it may be combined with medication or lifestyle support over time.
Is Bariatric Surgery Right for You?
You may be referred for bariatric surgery if excess weight is affecting your health, mobility, or quality of life. Concerns often build gradually, or they may become more urgent after a new diagnosis.
Surgery may help reduce health risks, improve daily function, and support long-term success when combined with follow-up care.
Types of Bariatric Surgery We Offer
Dr. Waked and the bariatric surgery team specialize in minimally invasive weight loss procedures, which often mean shorter recovery times and fewer complications. These procedures are carefully chosen based on each patient’s health, goals, and needs.
Beebe offers the following bariatric surgery options:
- Gastric Sleeve: In this procedure, a portion of the stomach is removed to make it smaller. This limits how much food you can eat and reduces hunger by removing the part of the stomach that produces hunger-related hormones. Many patients feel less appetite after surgery. The procedure typically takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
- Gastric Bypass: Also known as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, this surgery creates a small stomach pouch and reroutes part of the small intestine. This helps patients eat less and absorb fewer calories, supporting long-term weight loss.
- Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch: This procedure begins with a gastric sleeve and then reroutes the small intestine to further reduce calorie absorption. It is often recommended for patients with a higher body mass index (BMI), or for those who have had previous weight loss surgery and need additional support.
- Revision Surgery: Beebe also offers revision surgery for patients who have had a gastric sleeve or gastric bypass and need help with additional weight loss or relief from symptoms such as heartburn or reflux.
During your consultation, you will talk through these options with your surgeon and decide together which approach is the best fit. Conversations focus on your medical history, current medications, weight loss goals, and personal comfort level—so decisions are guided, informed, and made with confidence.
