Beebe Center for Weight Loss Surgery Earns Two Quality Accreditations
Beebe’s Center for Weight Loss Surgery has earned two distinct quality accreditations that showcase the highly-skilled care team and commitment to providing high-quality, safe, and effective bariatric surgery care.
Beebe Healthcare’s bariatric surgery program earned a three-year redesignation from MBSAQIP as a Low Acuity Center after successfully meeting all accreditation requirements. The Low Acuity Center designation recognizes programs that meet MBSAQIP standards for resources, clinical practices, staff qualifications, and quality improvement efforts for standard bariatric procedures.
Beebe's Margaret H. Rollins Lewes Campus currently holds the MBSAQIP designation as a Comprehensive Center, while Beebe’s Specialty Surgical Hospital met a separate set of standards and received the Low Acuity Center designation through MBSAQIP. The review process also includes participation in a national outcomes registry for increased transparency.
Redesignation confirms that Beebe and the Center for Weight Loss Surgery team continue to meet nationally recognized standards for bariatric surgery care and maintain the requirements established by MBSAQIP.
In addition to the MBSAQIP Low Acuity Center redesignation, Beebe Healthcare’s bariatric surgery program earned the Blue Distinction Center+ (BDC+) designation from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware. The BDC+ designation recognizes facilities that demonstrate expertise in patient safety, quality improvement and cost-effective care for common weight-loss procedures, including laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass.
To receive the BDC+ designation, facilities must participate in Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware's BlueCard® Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) network and maintain MBSAQIP accreditation. The program sets safety and quality standards and requires facilities to track outcomes.
On average, BDC+ designated facilities have 37% fewer overall complications and 49% fewer severe complications for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, 14% fewer overall complications, and 20% fewer severe complications for gastric bypass compared to non-MBSAQIP-accredited facilities. BDC+ designated facilities also achieved 25% average cost savings for bariatric procedures, compared to all other non-designated facilities.
