ABOUT THE PROVIDER
At Beebe Healthcare
Mouhanad Freih, MD, FACC, FSCI, is an interventional cardiologist at Beebe Healthcare, where he serves as the Physician Leader of the Cardiovascular Institute and Director of the Structural Heart Program. In these roles, he has contributed to the development and expansion of Beebe’s cardiovascular services, with a focus on implementing evidence-based practices and enhancing access to advanced cardiac care in the region.
Dr. Freih has worked closely with clinical and administrative teams to help establish several cardiac programs, including the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) Program, the Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Program (featuring Watchman™ and Amulet™ devices), and advanced mechanical circulatory support technologies. These include the CardioHelp Cardiac Assist System and the Impella® Heart Pump platform, both of which are used to support patients with cardiogenic shock or those undergoing high-risk percutaneous coronary interventions. The integration of these technologies into Beebe’s cardiovascular service line has enhanced the hospital’s ability to manage critically ill cardiac patients.
Dr. Freih also played a key role in the formation of Beebe’s Pulmonary Embolus Response Team (PERT), a multidisciplinary initiative designed to streamline the diagnosis and management of acute pulmonary embolism. Through this program, patients benefit from rapid risk stratification, coordinated care pathways, and timely access to advanced therapies when needed. The program reflects Beebe’s commitment to improving outcomes in time-sensitive cardiovascular emergencies.
During his time at Beebe, Dr. Freih has held several leadership positions, including Chair and Vice Chair of the Department of Cardiology, and Chair of the Cardiology Peer Review Committee. He has also served on the boards of Beebe Healthcare and the Beebe Medical Foundation. Dr. Freih has been recognized by Delaware Today as a Top Doctor each year from 2019 through 2025.
Since joining Beebe as an employed physician in July 2025, Dr. Freih is continuing patient care at the same office – now Beebe Interventional Cardiology Lewes – at 16392 Coastal Highway. He will also see patients at Beebe Cardiothoracic Surgery Lewes as needed in collaboration with the specialists at that practice.
Education, Training, and Credentialing
Dr. Freih is certified in both internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and in interventional cardiology by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Coronary Intervention. Dr. Freih earned his medical degree at the University of Damascus in Syria, and remained there to begin his post-graduate training, starting with an internal medicine internship. He later relocated to the United States, where the remainder of his clinical training was completed at Providence Hospital and Medical Centers, located in Southfield, Michigan. There, Dr. Freih completed residency training in internal medicine, followed by a cardiology fellowship and an interventional cardiology fellowship.
Earlier Work Experiences
Prior to joining Beebe, Dr. Freih worked in private practice as an interventional cardiologist.
