Most people who die suddenly from heart disease have no previous symptoms. While heart disease can be hereditary, there are many other risk factors when it comes to your heart health. The Mayo Clinic offers an online survey for patients to determine their heart disease risk. Compile your numbers from a recent physical and complete the heart disease risk calculator here.
Coronary Calcium Scan
If the Heart Health Profiler shows that you have a moderate to high risk for cardiovascular disease, you may want to take the results to your primary care physician and discuss the next steps. The increased risk for cardiovascular disease may prompt your physician to order a computed tomography (CT) coronary calcium scan. This scan has proven reliable in showing calcification in the coronary arteries. Calcification can point to an increased risk of a heart disease.
The physician must order this test. It can be performed at Beebe for a fee of $99, regardless of insurance coverage. Patients who do not smoke or have other cardiac risk factors, such as elevated cholesterol or high blood pressure, may not be eligible for the test.
Once the physician orders the test, the patient may schedule it through Beebe's Scheduling at (302) 645-FAST(3278).
