Ala Muhanna, MD, AAHIVS, is an infectious disease and geriatric medicine clinical care provider at Beebe Healthcare. She specializes in care for older adults who have been diagnosed with complex infections; in particular those who are age 65 and older and who suffer with frailty, dementia, and other age-related medical issues. In in addition to delivering comprehensive treatment for patients with these conditions, Dr. Muhanna focuses on disease prevention. She is committed to guiding the aging population on the steps they can take to prevent illness, improve their health, and maintain their independence. Dr. Muhanna sees patients at both the hospital as well as in various Beebe outpatient practice locations across Sussex County.

Education, Training, and Credentialing
Dr. Muhanna earned her medical degree at University of Jordan. She remained in the country of Jordan to pursue a clinical internship and internal medicine residency training before relocating to the United States. Her training continued with completion of an internal medicine residency and infection disease fellowship, both at Saint Michael’s Medical Center located in Newark, New Jersey. She also completed a geriatrics fellowship at the University of Arizona-Phoenix. Dr. Muhanna is board certified in both infection disease and internal medicine, and is certified as a HIV Specialist through the American Academy of HIV Medicine.

Earlier Work Experiences
While completing her clinical training, Dr. Muhanna participated in a number of clinical research experiences, opening doors for her to present and publish her findings. This work, combined with the experience she gained in the clinical care setting, solidified her passion for infectious disease and geriatric medicine.

Personal Notes
Dr. Muhanna is married and has two children. The family enjoys walking outdoors, visiting the beach, shopping, and spending quality time with friends. She speaks both English and Arabic.
