David R. Nehring, MD, is a general surgeon at Beebe Healthcare. He cares for patients of all ages, who have been diagnosed with a diverse range of medical conditions requiring surgical intervention. Dr. Nehring has a specific interest in minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques, and applies these techniques and technologies often when conducting hernia repairs and colon resections. Dr. Nehring also provides general surgical services for patients who present in the Emergency Department, demonstrating acute onset of appendicitis, gallbladder attacks, and hernias. He is thrilled to be a member of Beebe’s Medical Staff and to have an opportunity to advance the healthcare system’s surgical capabilities, to best meet the needs of patients throughout Sussex County.

Education, Training, and Credentialing

Dr. Nehring is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville. He completed his general surgery residency at Akron City Hospital, part of the Summa Health System, in Akron, Ohio. There, he was awarded the William H. Falor Research Award for Outstanding Resident Research and Presentation. Dr. Nehring is a member of the American College of Surgeons.

Earlier Work Experiences

Prior to joining Beebe, Dr. Nehring served in several leadership positions while pursuing his general surgery residency, including project leader for the Biohazard Bag Quality Improvement Initiative. Additionally, he served as a guest lecturer and volunteer educator, offering multiple workshops and educational sessions for medical students at Akron City Hospital and the University of Virginia School of Medicine. 

Personal Interests

Outside of work, Dr. Nehring likes to hike, swim, and run – a new passion that was born during the COVID pandemic, when he pursued a Couch-to-5k training plan and race. He has been running ever since! Dr. Nehring also enjoys spending time at the pool with his wife and daughter.
