Elsa Tabrez, MD

Resident Physician PGY2

ABOUT THE PROVIDER

Elsa Tabrez, MD, grew up understanding just how important the work of doctors is. Her mom is a family medicine physician. Her dad is a gastroenterologist. Despite their encouragement to become “anything she wanted to be,” Dr. Tabrez is proud to be following in their footsteps.

“I have learned so much about social determinants of health, and that there are many reasons why some people do not have access to healthcare,” said Dr. Tabrez, who earned her medical degree at the American University of Integrative Sciences, located in Barbados. “I want to be the kind of doctor who aims to change that. I want to advocate for my patients, build trusting relationships with them, and create continuity in their care.”

In researching residency programs for post-graduate training, Dr. Tabrez came across the R. Randall Rollins Center for Medical Education at Beebe Healthcare. The more she learned, the more confident she felt that Sussex County might be a good fit for both professional and personal reasons. She was eager to be part of a program that would offer exposure to many populations of patients and that prioritizes the value of community-based health and wellness. She was excited about the potential to join a recently-established residency program, where her views and ideas would be valued by leadership. And she was drawn to the charm of Lewes, a small town that felt a little like home.

“I knew within five minutes of beginning my interview that Beebe was where I wanted to be,” said Dr. Tabrez. “Everyone was so kind and welcoming. It was clear that the team here functions like a family, and that kind of culture is not always a given. I fell in love with this place quickly.”

As a family medicine resident, Dr. Tabrez’s priorities are to gain exposure to the full spectrum of clinical care for families, increase her procedural care capabilities, and focus on the benefits of chronic disease management. As she fulfills her first year of training at Beebe, she will also be working toward completion of her Master of Public Health degree from New York Medical College. Dr. Tabrez plans to embrace life at the beach, and all of the benefits that come with it. She enjoys painting, pottery, writing fiction, reading, hiking, and of course taking in peaceful moments by the water.

“I feel like living in Lewes will nurture my creative side,” said Dr. Tabrez. “I plan to make the most of it.”

Dr. Tabrez was born in Pakistan. She is fluent in English, Spanish, and Urdu.
