Geoffrey Braden, MD, FACP, FACG, AGAF, is a gastroenterologist on the medical staff at Beebe Healthcare. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, including inflammatory bowel disease, severe refractory irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, cirrhosis, and advanced Crohn’s Disease. Additionally, he provides comprehensive care for patients diagnosed with chronic liver disease, including those who are preparing for and recovering from liver transplant surgery. As they are undergoing treatment for their medical issues, many patients also rely on Dr. Braden for nutrition guidance and dietary management and support, including those who require central hyperalimentation – a life-sustaining therapy that provides nutrition intravenously. He sees patients age 18 and older.
Education, Training, and Credentialing
Dr. Braden earned his medical degree at Ohio State University, then relocated to Chicago to pursue his internship and residency training, both with concentration in medicine, at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics. He then spent two years in Boston, where he completed a clinical fellowship in gastroenterology, followed by a research fellowship in gastroenterology, both at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in partnership with Harvard Medical School. Dr. Braden is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Specialty Board of Gastroenterology. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Gastroenterological Association. Additionally, Dr. Braden is active with the Scientific Advisory Group for Delaware Valley Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, and is recognized as an industry leader in the presentation and publication of research that aims to advance the practice of gastroenterology on a national level. He is the founding editor of Medscape Gastroenterology, and is a member of the publication’s editorial board to this day.
Earlier Work Experiences
Prior to joining Beebe, Dr. Braden served as an attending physician at Intermountain Healthcare Logan Regional Hospital, located in Utah. Earlier in his career, he worked for various hospitals in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, serving as a physician leader in internal medicine and gastroenterology departments. Dr. Braden is passionate about medical education, and has served as a clinical professor of medicine at various higher education institutions over the course of his career, including Drexel University College of Medicine, Allegheny University of the Health Sciences, and the Medical College of Pennsylvania.
Personal Notes
Dr. Braden and his wife are proud parents to two grown daughters (one is a professor at Utah State University, and the other is a marketing leader for Clarivate Analytics) and two grandsons. They enjoy playing tennis and pickleball, bike riding, and traveling. Dr. Braden is an avid reader and is especially interested in learning about and using new technologies.
