ABOUT THE DOCTOR
Gita Pillai, MD, is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon, specializing in shoulder, elbow, and sports injuries. She completed her undergraduate degree in sociology and biology at Columbia University in New York, where she was a varsity softball player and captain in her final year. She subsequently returned to her home state of Maryland to attend medical school at the University of Maryland, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Dr. Pillai completed her orthopaedic surgery residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, under the chairmanship of Evan Flatow, MD, a former president of the American Shoulder and Elbow Society. During her residency she was selected by the faculty to serve as chief resident in her final year. During her training at Mount Sinai, Dr. Pillai trained with leading sports surgeons in sports related knee injuries. Dr. Pillai performs ACL reconstructions as well as treats meniscal pathology. Following residency, Dr. Pillai pursued specialty training as the shoulder and elbow fellow for Dr. Peter McCann and Dr. Frances Cuomo, a former American Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Society president.
