Gita Pillai, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon affiliated with Beebe Healthcare. Dr. Pillai is the only fellowship-trained shoulder and elbow surgeon in southern Delaware. She specializes in shoulder arthroplasty including standard and reverse total shoulder replacements, shoulder and elbow fracture care, and shoulder arthroscopy. She also treats sports-related knee injuries. Since 2022, Dr. Pillai has served as Orthopaedic Division Chief for Beebe Healthcare.

Education, Training, and Credentialing

Dr. Pillai earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. She completed her orthopaedic surgery residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, where she also served as Chief Resident during her final year. Following residency, Dr. Pillai pursued fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery. During her training at Mount Sinai, Dr. Pillai trained with leading sports surgeons in sports related knee injuries. She has authored several textbook chapters and articles on shoulder and elbow surgery, and has presented her research at national meetings. Additionally, Dr. Pillai has served as an instructor for arthroscopic rotator cuff tear repair at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Pillai is a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Delaware Society of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Mid-Atlantic Shoulder & Elbow Society. She has been named a “Top Doctor” by Delaware Today in both orthopedics and sports medicine, multiple times.

She is a member of Beebe Healthcare's Medical Staff.
