Homayoon Mahjoob, MD, MSPH, is a gastroenterologist who practices at Beebe Healthcare. He specializes in advanced interventional endoscopy, with focus on diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal tumors and hepatopancreatobiliary diseases. Dr. Mahjoob provides care for patients who have been admitted to the hospital, working as part of a multidisciplinary care team that provides treatment for gastrointestinal cancer patients and serving as a key consultant for complex gastroenterology cases. Additionally, Dr. Mahjoob is working to strategically develop and expand Beebe’s therapeutic endoscopy program, in alignment with demonstrated community need.

Education, Training, and Credentialing

Dr. Mahjoob earned his medical degree at the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Iran. He relocated to the United States to pursue his post-graduate training, beginning with a gastroenterology research training program facilitated by the University of California in San Diego. Dr. Mahjoob eventually transitioned to the east coast, landing in New York for an internal medicine residency at St. Barnabas Hospital, followed by a preventive medicine and public health fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center. While at Mount Sinai, in tandem, he earned a Master of Science in Community Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Mahjoob’s training continued with additional fellowship training concentrating on gastroenterology at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C., advanced interventional gastroenterology training at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, also in Washington, D.C., and additional therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound training at the University of Massachusetts. Years later, he completed the Emory Chief Medical Office Program, based out of the Emory University in Atlanta. Dr. Mahjoob is a board certified gastroenterologist and is a Diplomate of American Board of Internal Medicine.

Earlier Work Experiences

Prior to joining Beebe’s medical staff, Dr. Mahjoob led Advanced GI Associates, as founder of the practice. In tandem, he served as Director of Gastroenterology at UM Capital Region Medical Center, with locations in Largo, Laurel, and Bowie, Maryland. Earlier in his career, he served as Director of Bowie Surgery Center in Maryland, Medical Director of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Concentra Medical Center in Maryland, and Medical Director of Internal Medicine and Occupational Medicine at Fenton Medical Center in Michigan. Dr. Mahjoob has also devoted his time and talent to medical education, serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor at both University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Ross Medical School, located on the island of Barbados.

Personal Notes

Dr. Mahjoob spends his free time pursuing activities that keep him active and intellectually engaged. He enjoys reading, biking, playing tennis, and traveling. He speaks both English and Farsi.
