Vincent Lotano, MD, is a cardiothoracic surgeon at Beebe Healthcare seeing patients at Beebe Cardiothoracic Lewes and performing procedures at the Lewes Campus. He provides comprehensive care for patients as they undergo complex cardiac and structural heart procedures including heart bypass surgery, heart valve surgery, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), and cardiogenic shock. He also specializes in care for patients who require left and right-sided cardiac support devices and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation – a specialized procedure that removes carbon dioxide from the bloodstream and replaces it with oxygen-rich blood. Dr. Lotano also sees patients in Beebe’s Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and is proud to work for a hospital that is truly committed to caring for its community.
Education, Training, and Credentialing
Dr. Lotano earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey. His post-graduate training included a general surgery residency at Cooper Hospital University Medical Center, also in New Jersey, followed by a cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Lotano is board certified in general surgery, thoracic surgery, and Cyberknife, and is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Chest Physicians.
Earlier Work Experiences
Dr. Lotano previously served as Medical Director of Thoracic Surgery and the Cardiogenic Shock Intensive Care Unit at AtlantiCare Health System in New Jersey. He played an instrumental role in the establishment and growth of the specialized intensive care unit as well as the open heart and transitional open-heart units at that hospital. Earlier in his career, Dr. Lotano served in leadership roles at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey at Cooper Hospital, Virtua Surgical Group, the University of Pennsylvania Health System, and Lehigh Valley Health Network. In tandem, he has devoted time to academic medicine and has served as an associate professor of surgery at various colleges and universities, including the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, University of Pennsylvania, Morsani College of Medicine at the University of South Florida, and Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.
Personal Notes
Dr. Lotano was raised in upstate New York and visited Rehoboth Beach repeatedly as a vacationer. He is thrilled to call Sussex County home, and to have an opportunity to practice medicine in the place he has loved to visit over the course of his lifetime. Dr. Lotano is married and has two children. The family enjoys boating, music, and traveling. He and his son have a special interest in classic muscle cars. Additionally, in honor of his Italian heritage, Dr. Lotano is actively studying Italian with a goal to speak the language fluently, soon.
