Minimal Incisions to Maximize Healing
With minimally invasive gynecologic procedures, you can recover and heal more quickly than with traditional surgery.
Thanks to new technologies and procedures, gynecological surgery no longer has to mean weeks of discomfort and recovery. When surgery is indicated, specialists at Beebe Healthcare incorporate laparoscopic techniques where only two tiny incisions are made in the abdomen to treat endometriosis, uterine prolapse, and fibroids, as well as diseases and conditions requiring a hysterectomy.
A Speedy Recovery
Minimally invasive procedures have proven to cause less pain, less blood loss, and less risk of infection. Hospital stays generally are no longer than overnight, compared to three
or four nights for traditional surgeries.
“Women who undergo these minimally invasive procedures get back to their lives more quickly,” says Steven D. Berlin, MD, medical director of obstetrics and newborn services at Beebe. “You can usually return to most activities within two weeks, compared to six to eight weeks for traditional surgeries.”
These surgeries also are used in the diagnosis, staging, or treatment of gynecological cancers such as cervical, fallopian, ovarian, or uterine cancers. We see this at Beebe as OB/GYNs work together with cancer surgeons.
