Stay Active in the First State

While some people can escape to a mountain ski chalet for a winter holiday, you don’t have to do that to get some good, healthy exercise when the days are cold, wet, and windy. Delaware offers a host of outdoor activities that you can do with careful planning. There are beautiful trails in Delaware parks and nature preserves throughout the state where you can walk, hike, or bicycle.

Step Up Your Game

Combine participation in any exercise activity with a bit of competition and philanthropy. Delaware’s “Motivate the First State” initiative allows you to log your healthy activity online. For every healthy activity you log, monetary donations are made on your behalf to charities that include the Boys and Girls Club of Delaware, The YMCA of Delaware, and Special Olympics Delaware.

Motivate the First State” is a campaign developed in collaboration with the Governor’s Council on Health Promotions and Disease Prevention. Beebe Healthcare has been active in this effort through its collaboration with Healthier Sussex County. Help yourself and others—log activities, such as brushing your teeth and cooking a healthy meal, to count toward meeting your goals.

There are many programs that aim to applaud you for moving throughout your day. From FitBit to MyFitnessPal - try a few and decide which works best for you!
