Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Get to Know Beebe’s Center for Breast Health
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to focus on your breast health and recognize the value of early detection. It’s also an opportunity to know about the services available through Beebe’s Center for Breast Health, which offers advanced and compassionate care right here in Sussex County.
Located on the Abessinio Health Campus in Rehoboth, the Center brings breast imaging, surgeons, oncology specialists, nurse navigators, and support services together in one location, helping patients move from screening and diagnosis to treatment with greater convenience and coordination.
The team offers a full range of services that include breast cancer risk assessments, preventive care, advanced imaging, biopsies, surgery, and cancer treatment. Patients have access to a multidisciplinary team of medical, radiation, and surgical specialists who work together to deliver personalized care.
Patients are seen by breast surgery experts, including the renowned Diana Dickson-Witmer, MD, and fellowship-trained Matthew Richards, MD. They are focused exclusively on breast health and cancer care.
Complementing the excellence of the surgeons is a care team that always puts the patient first. Beebe’s Breast Health Nurse Navigators coordinate care, answer questions, connect patients with resources, and guide them throughout the diagnostic, treatment, and survivorship journey, including access to social workers, local support groups, and community survivorship programs through Beebe Oncology.
Beebe offers advanced 3D mammography, breast MRI, and breast ultrasound and imaging sites throughout the County. 3D mammography has been shown to improve breast cancer detection and reduce the need for additional imaging. Early detection remains one of the most effective ways to identify breast cancer when it is most treatable, which is why regular screening mammograms are so important.
As Sussex County continues to grow, the Center for Breast Health provides patients with access to clinical trials, expert surgeons, and breast care close to home.
The Center for Breast Health is the only breast program in Delaware accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons that recognizes organizations meeting rigorous standards for comprehensive breast care.
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, take time to prioritize your breast health, understand your risk factors, and talk to your healthcare provider about recommended screenings.
