Beebe Heroes 5K celebrates support of community for team

The second annual Beebe Heroes 5K Run/Walk was held July 11 at Irish Eyes in Lewes. Last year’s inaugural race was 100 percent virtual, so the team at Beebe Medical Foundation – the fundraising arm of Beebe Healthcare – was unsure what to expect.

As it turned out, the support was incredible. More than 350 people registered for the race, and over 25 organizations sponsored the event. Attendance on race day was even more heartwarming.

Tom Protack, Beebe Medical Foundation president, welcomed the crowd, noting that the weather was Delmarvalous. Tom also thanked Irish Eyes, Dr. Andrew Dahlke, Seashore Striders, Beebe Healthcare, Blue Shore Cleaning, Freeman Foundation Tower Hill, Hudson Fields, Sergovic Carmean Weidman McCartney & Owens, P.A., J.G. Townsend Jr. & Co., SecureNet MD, The Happy Difference Foundation, Next Home Tomorrow Realty, RISE Fitness, Up To Date Laundry, Red Sapphire Consulting, AV Unlimited, CINTAS, Daniel’s Healthcare, Hilyards Business Solutions, MAX Challenge Lewes, Money Mailer, The Valcik Group, VERITIV, Benchmark Physical Therapy, Faw Casson, Midway Fitness & Adventure, Adkins Produce, Bill Brooks, Bryan Flottemesch, Sara Bushey, Cindy Popovich, and Michael Roth – all of whom were race sponsors.

In his brief comments before the race, Beebe President & CEO Dr. David Tam thanked the participants and reiterated that Beebe Healthcare is here for our community in a multitude of ways and that Beebe is also grateful for the incredible types of support that the community gives back to the healthcare system.

Tom Jones from Irish Eyes commented, “When Beebe Medical Center asked Irish Eyes Restaurant to help support them with a 5K race, we didn’t hesitate. Beebe has always been there for us personally as well as the community. It was our pleasure to work with such a caring group of professionals that have their hearts in the right place. Charlene and I were proud to provide the after party for the 350+ people/heroes participating the 5K run/walk for Beebe Medical Center. It was a pleasure to meet Dr. Tam and his staff of compassionate people that truly love and care for our community. Charlene and I look forward to next year’s event that we know will be bigger and better than ever.”

“I really enjoyed getting out with other team and community members to support all the great work that happens every day at Beebe!” said Mary Green, Beebe Healthcare communications and outreach manager. “To feel so many people rallying in a healthy way is a testament to how much we all care about each other, our community and the work we do within this healthcare system.”

Dr. Bill Chasanov, also a race participant, added, “As this past year and a half has been difficult for many of us, it was great to see the community come together to support Beebe Healthcare, which will allow us to continue to provide the necessary care to our community.”

“I am proud to be part of a healthcare organization that supports the wonderful communities in Sussex County. Beebe patients deserve the very best healthcare possible, and as a member of the Beebe Medical Group Leadership team, we strive to make this happen every day,” said Bryan Flottemesch, practice manger for Beebe Medical Group.

“What an amazing turnout, and what energy we are feeling today,” said a smiling Kay Young, Beebe Medical Foundation executive director of development. “Excellent care from Beebe continues to generate excellent support from our community. What terrific day – we are grateful!”
