Honoring "The Queen of First Street"
One of the most enjoyable ways to raise money for our not-for-profit healthcare system is by accepting donations from those who have received excellent care here at Beebe. Sometimes, they are giving to recognize care they received, other times they give in honor or memory of a loved one. The latter was the case with our recent meeting and donation from the Caggiano family. As you are likely aware, the Caggiano family opened Nicola Pizza in Rehoboth Beach in 1971.
Joan Caggiano was known as “Mama Nicola,” “Mama Joan,” and “The Queen of First Street.” Her husband, Nick Caggiano, Sr. and son, Nick, Jr., wanted to recognize the care Joan received as well as the care the family has had over the years at Beebe.
They worked with Beebe Medical Foundation on the gift and we were so proud to let them tell Joan’s story. Here is a bit of that story
“Joan’s son, Nick Jr., told me recently, “The way everyone cared for Mom was absolutely first class. All of the doctors and nurses were unbelievable – a number one!” Everyone at Beebe Healthcare is a family, and we all work together to provide excellent care for families.
Beebe’s care of the Caggiano family continued this past fall when Nick Sr. decided to address some problems he was having with his hips and knees. Nick shared, “My friends recommended so many doctors. They encouraged me to meet doctors from Salisbury, Maryland, to Paoli, Pennsylvania, and everywhere in between. But after all of my searching I decided that the best care was right here, at home. I finally decided to have my knee and hip replaced by the excellent orthopaedic team at Beebe Healthcare.”
On one visit Nick said to me, “I knew Beebe’s care was exceptional from our family’s experience last year. The care I have just received by the orthopaedic team was absolutely superior and I’m serious about that. My family and I would like to make a gift in appreciation for everything everyone did for Joan and also for the incredible care they have just given to me.”
