Rollins family donates $10M to Beebe Healthcare
R. Randall and Peggy Rollins have donated $10 million to the Beebe Medical Foundation and Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.
The gift represents the largest ever received by Beebe, the largest gift in Sussex County and one of the largest made in the state of Delaware, according to a news release from Beebe Healthcare.
“The Rollins family’s gift is so inspirational,” Judy Aliquo, CEO of Beebe Medical Foundation, said in a statement. “This generous investment in Beebe could not have come at a better time as we embark on the largest expansion plan in our history.”
Made through the Rollins family’s Ma-Ran Foundation, the $10 million gift will partially fund a four-story patient wing and pavilion on the Savannah Road campus in Lewes. Beebe announced the pavilion as part of its proposed $180 million expansion. The wing will be renamed as the Margaret H. Rollins Pavilion on the Lewes Campus.
Beebe said the wing will increase its capacity for complex medical and surgical cases, include private rooms and create a dedicated Women’s and Children’s Department on the second floor.
The Rollins family has long supported philanthropic activities in Sussex County, going back when patriarch John Rollins transformed his car dealership into a business empire that included Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, a cable television company and a truck rental business.
“As Beebe continues to plan and develop services, programs and facilities for our growing population, we will look to those we serve for their continued confidence in what we are doing as well as their support to help us expand throughout the county,” said Jeffrey Fried, CEO, Beebe Healthcare.
PROJECT UPDATE [JUNE 15, 2018]: Due to anticipated changes in our community’s use of healthcare facilities and services, we have re-evaluated the scope of our expansion and decided to enhance and expand access to advanced medical technologies and outpatient services rather than proceeding with the construction of additional inpatient rooms on the Lewes Campus.
