Advancing Age-Friendly Care
Beebe Healthcare’s Commitment to Sussex County’s Older Adults
Meeting the Needs of a Growing Population
Sussex County is experiencing a demographic shift as its older adult population continues to grow. About one in four Delawareans are age sixty and older, and by 2040, nearly 34% of the state’s population will be in this age group (Delaware Department of Health and Social Services, 2020). This trend underscores the importance of providing evidence-based, dignified, and person-centered care for older adults.
Beebe Healthcare’s Community Commitment
Beebe Healthcare is recognized for its community-focused approach, prioritizing outreach and education based on proven needs. The organization strives to deliver resources to our Sussex County seniors through our NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) program.
The Resource Guide Initiative
To further this mission, our NICHE Coordinator created a comprehensive resource guide for seniors. Initially, it was developed for staff to access. Building on this success, the NICHE Coordinator launched a printed and digital resource guide for seniors, available in hospitals and outpatient facilities. This guide connects older adults with local services and reinforces Beebe Healthcare’s commitment to bringing care into the community. Community members can also download and print a copy of the resource guide.
Making a Positive Impact
These efforts make a meaningful difference in people’s lives and reflect Beebe Healthcare’s mission and vision. By prioritizing age-friendly care and community engagement, Beebe Healthcare continues to lead the way in supporting Delaware’s growing older adult population.
