Back on my feet thanks to great care at Beebe
By: Trudie E. Thompson
Earlier this year, when I toured Beebe Healthcare’s shiny, new, Specialty Surgical Center at the Rehoboth Health Campus, I had no idea that I, myself, would soon be needing the services of the brand-new walk-in center located in that very building.
A few months after my tour, I injured my foot pretty badly. My doctor was away but I knew something was wrong and I needed to be seen by a medical professional. I went to Beebe’s Online Scheduling page (https://www.beebehealthcare.org/online-scheduling) and set an appointment at Beebe’s Rehoboth Walk-In Clinic (or in my case, the hop-in clinic!) for the very next day.
When I arrived for my appointment, I was seen promptly. I met two AMAZING providers who took care of me – Matt Taylor, NP and Barbara Richards, RN.
Matt immediately thought my foot was broken, and when they got the x-rays, sure enough he was right. My 5th metatarsal was broken. Now, in general, I LOVE nurse practitioners, but this is the first male one I had ever encountered. He was exceptional. He really listened and cared. Barbara was also extraordinary. She shared with me that she had been a nurse for a long time, and it showed. It’s hard to put my finger on exactly what it was, but they were both so wonderful, warm, kind and knowledgeable. Despite having a broken foot, my entire experience was simply fantastic.
The following week, I saw Roman C. Orsini, DPM, at Delaware Orthopedic Associates. He promptly put me in a lovely boot (pictured), which was so much better than hopping on one foot.
I’m proud to be a supporter of Beebe. I am a member of the 1916 Club and I regularly attend Beebe events. I have had the opportunity to meet many Beebe Team Members as well as members of Beebe Leadership. My experience at the Rehoboth Walk-In was, however, a chance for me to see things from the patient side. And I have to say the experience was great. Matt and Barb were simply AWESOME – both to me and to each other.
I am writing this letter today because I felt Matt and Barb deserved recognition. I wanted to thank them from the bottom of my heart – I’m so glad to be able to recognize them through Beebe’s Celebrate Excellent Care program.
Those who know me, know that I don’t sit still much. While my injury was a bummer, I was thankful to have great care from Beebe to help get me back on my feet.
