Catherine Murphy, RN, from Beebe’s Diagnostic Imaging Department has been named winner of a DAISY Award for her commitment to excellence in nursing and the delivery of outstanding patient care. Murphy was nominated for the award following a compassionate and supportive encounter with an 88-year-old patient who suffered from memory loss.

“Catherine was professional, respectful, kind, and capable. She showed my mother the utmost respect, even while recognizing that she would need to repeat herself,” wrote the patient’s son, who submitted the nomination, with gratitude. “She gave my mom her full attention while also completing all of the necessary tasks to help her prepare for and recover from her procedure. Catherine exemplifies what nursing is about and Beebe is lucky to have someone who is so experienced and compassionate.”

DAISY awards are presented on a monthly basis at Beebe in memory of a man named J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of an autoimmune disease in the late 1990’s. Patrick’s family was incredibly grateful for the compassion demonstrated by his nurses, and founded the DAISY program as a way of giving back; it encourages patients across the country to thank nurses for making a difference in their lives.

Nurses at Beebe can be nominated for DAISY awards by their colleagues, patients, and patient family members. Nominations are accepted on an ongoing basis and can be submitted online at www.beebehealthcare.org/forms/daisy-award.
