Beebe Healthcare recently presented the first Dr. Saliba Clinical Excellence Award to long-time emergency department physician Kevin Bristowe.

The new yearly award is given to a Beebe Medical Staff clinician to honor the excellent care provided to patients and the community. The Medical Executive Committee votes on candidates who demonstrate compassionate, high-quality care, involvement with the medical staff, and commitment to Beebe, including advancing and supporting the organization's mission, vision, and strategic direction.

“Dr. Saliba was a dedicated and hard-working physician, so it’s truly an honor to receive this,” said Dr. Bristowe, who has been on Beebe’s medical staff since 1998.

In that time, he held various roles, including serving as the medical director for the Emergency Department and Sussex County EMS for many years. Dr. Bristowe has been a part of numerous committees and projects at Beebe and with the state to improve healthcare in Sussex County.

The award honors Anis K. Saliba, a pioneer in the medical field and a pillar at Beebe Healthcare. Dr. Saliba was triple board-certified in general, thoracic, and critical care surgery. He served as President of the Medical Staff and Chief of Staff while performing countless surgeries and providing medical care for community members. In 1988, he was appointed to the Board of Directors, serving for 33 distinguished years, including two decades on the medical group's board.

His impact and generosity are still felt and seen around Beebe. An honorary plaque naming the Dr. Anis and Sue Saliba Family Waiting Room hangs on the wall of the Same Day Surgery lounge, the Saliba Building on Savannah Road across from the hospital holds the offices for Beebe Cardiothoracic Surgery, and a nursing scholarship is given to a senior student at the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing every year since 2017.
