Beebe Healthcare’s Specialty Surgical Hospital Named One of 15 ‘Top Rural Hospitals’ for 2024 by Leapfrog
Beebe Healthcare’s Specialty Surgical Hospital has been recognized as one of 15 of the top rural hospitals in the country by the Leapfrog Group.
The award reflects Beebe’s commitment and excellence to provide the best quality and safe care for Sussex County. Leapfrog notes that Top Hospitals are identified for providing excellence in a variety of quality and patient safety measures including low infection rates, surgical safety, error prevention, ethical billing, and ensuring patients provide informed consent for procedures.
Beebe was the only hospital in Delaware to receive this accolade.
“Beebe Healthcare's strategic vision is built on a foundation of quality and safety,” said David A. Tam, MD, MBA, CPHE, FACHE, President & CEO, Beebe Healthcare. “To be the healthcare provider of choice in Sussex County, it's imperative to offer quality and safe care that is accessible to all people, and awards like these show our commitment is evident in every aspect of our operations and five-year strategic plan. Congratulations to the many teams who helped achieve this honor that is reflective of our entire healthcare system.”
The Specialty Surgical Hospital opened in May 2022 packed with the latest innovations and technologies to streamline operative care for patients with a wide range of medical needs. Primarily serving bariatric, breast, and orthopaedic patients for short-stay and outpatient procedures, the surgical hospital has quickly earned reputation as a destination for surgery.
Utilizing robotic surgical systems, as well as minimally invasive and navigation-based tools to optimize the process of surgical care, our patients typically see shorter stays and faster recovery times, allowing them to get back to their optimal level of health.
These Leapfrog designations began in 2006 and are awarded in four categories: Top Children’s Hospital, Top General Hospital, Top Rural Hospital, and Top Teaching Hospital and are based on a comprehensive evaluation process that included more than 2,400 hospitals nationwide. This year, 134 hospitals earned the Top Hospital Award, including eight Top Children’s Hospitals, 36 Top General Hospitals, 15 Top Rural Hospitals and 75 Top Teaching Hospitals. This represents less than six percent of all eligible hospitals in the U.S.
The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization that is viewed as a “watchdog” of the healthcare industry. It uses publicly available data as well as self-reported information from an annual hospital survey that Beebe submits to Leapfrog. The organization says it focuses on patient safety in hospitals and healthcare systems. Its research is conducted to educate and inform consumers about hospitals that deliver the highest value care and that are taking the steps necessary to ensure a safe and compliant environment of care.
