Lorena Ramirez-Velasquez, RN, Named Winner of DAISY Award, Recognizing Nursing Excellence
Beebe Healthcare is proud to announce that Lorena Ramirez-Velasquez, RN, a nurse on the hospital’s Women’s and Children’s Unit, has been named winner of a DAISY Award. This award is presented to a nurse who practices at Beebe on a monthly basis, with a goal to celebrate the extraordinary clinical excellence and compassion brought to patients every day.
Ramirez-Velasquez was nominated for the DAISY Award by a patient who experienced some challenges during her hospitalization, and is grateful for the personalized care she received – which not only eased her physical pain but also made her feel safe and comforted.
“Lorena took the time to explain everything, comforted me when I was anxious, and made sure I felt heard every step of the way,” explained the patient, as she reflected back on her positive care experience at Beebe. “What stood out the most was the kindness she showed me during the busiest moments. Lorena checked on my pain levels, helped me get comfortable, and encouraged me when I felt scared. She spoke to me with warmth and understanding, and made a lasting impact on me and my family.”
DAISY awards are presented at hospitals across the U.S. in memory of a man named J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of an autoimmune disease in the late 1990s. His family founded the DAISY program in his memory, fully understanding the role nurses play in treating patients and making a positive difference in their processes of care, based on their own personal experiences. Nurses at Beebe can be nominated for DAISY awards by their colleagues, patients, and patient family members. Nominations are accepted on an ongoing basis and can be submitted online at www.beebehealthcare.org/forms/daisy-award.
