Beebe Announces Winners of Annual Nursing Scholarships

Beebe Healthcare is proud to present a series of scholarships on an annual basis to students pursuing degrees at the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing. Collectively, the awards celebrate students demonstrating exceptional academic and clinical performance, while also aiding those who have a demonstrated need for financial assistance as they pursue and complete their nursing curriculums. The scholarship program is supported by a number of local leaders and organizations that understand the importance of rewarding extraordinary nursing students who are training at Beebe and who will ultimately become the next generation of nurse leaders. The following awards were presented:

Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is made possible through gifts from community donors who want to support Beebe Healthcare’s nursing program. Winners are selected based on recommendations from the Student Services Committee. This year’s winner is Morgan Taylor from Townsend.

Medical Staff Nursing Scholar’s Program Scholarships
Recognizing the crucial value nurses bring to the critical care environment, Beebe’s medical staff does their part to support students pursing their nursing education at the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing through offering scholarships each year. Winners have demonstrated exceptional performance in nursing and have expressed an intention to continue serving Sussex County, following graduation. This year’s scholarships were awarded to Jamesia Alphonse from Seaford, Destiny Romano from Dover, and MaKenna Miska from Magnolia.

Mildred Gray/VIA Scholarships
This award is sponsored by the Village Improvement Association (VIA) of Rehoboth Beach, a member of the General Federation of Women’s Club. It is awarded to nursing students who are residents of Sussex County, who are maintaining a B or higher average in nursing courses, and who have demonstrated financial need. This year, scholarships were presented to Riley Osborne, a senior nursing student from Seaford, and Mya Dellinger, a first-year nursing student from Milton.

Louise Jarmon Hopkinson Scholarships
Each year, scholarships are presented in memory of Louise Jarmon Hopkinson, a 1932 graduate of the Beebe School of Nursing who served in the Army Nurse Corps and who also worked at Beebe for many years. These merit-based scholarships are funded by the estate of Ms. Hopkinson, with awards presented in the spring semester to one senior student and one first-year student. The winners, who have the highest academic average based on fall semester performance, are Noelle Benson (senior student) from Lewes and Madison Nichols (first-year student) from Milton.

Irene P. Sorbara Charitable Foundation Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to residents of Sussex County who are pursuing post-secondary education in the field of nursing or teaching. They honor the memory of Irene P. Sorbara, who was born in Lewes in 1938 and devoted her life to serving as an elementary school teacher in Rehoboth Beach. Scholarships are funded by the Irene P. Sorbara Charitable Foundation and are presented to students with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, who are eligible for a student loan but not a Pell Grant. This year’s scholarship recipients include Yana Quel from Rehoboth Beach, Lily Joyce from Milton, Rachel Mordes from Seaford, Hannah Navarro from Lewes, Paige Psaroudakis from Frankford, and Phylicia Reed from Millsboro.

Edna W. Wyatt Scholarship
This scholarship was created by Mr. and Mrs. G. Edward Wyatt in memory of Edward’s mother, a 1930 graduate of the Beebe School of Nursing. It is awarded to a first-year or senior student who has demonstrated academic excellence and has a need for financial support. This year’s scholarship was presented to Mya Dellinger from Milton.

Dr. Mansour Saberi Scholarship
This scholarship is presented each year to a nursing student who is in good academic standing, is a resident of Sussex County, and who plan to seek employment at Beebe Healthcare following graduation from nursing school. It was established by Mrs. Shirin Saberi in memory of her husband, Dr. Mansour, an internal medicine and endocrinology specialist who served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Beebe Healthcare for three decades. Olivia Creamer, a senior student from Greenwood, was named winner of this year’s award.

Dr. Carl G. Pierce, Jr. Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to students who are performing exceptionally in nursing school, have a caring and professional attitude, and who have a special interest in pediatrics. It was created by the family of Dr. Carl G. Pierce, who served as a physician at Beebe from 1951 to 1987 and served as a school physician within the Beebe School of Nursing. Winners of the 2026 scholarships are Chloe Klaus, a senior from Camden, and Ayanna Williams, a senior from Smyrna.

Data Guard/Pioneer Nursing Scholarship
The Data Guard/Pioneer Nursing Scholarship honors Eleanor P. Cordrey and Virginia P. Cottingham, alumni of the Beebe School of Nursing who dedicated their time and talent to improving Beebe Healthcare. This year’s scholarship winner was Katelyn Milligan, a senior nursing student from Harrington.

Leaders from Beebe Healthcare and the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing are incredibly grateful for the generosity demonstrated by the community, which makes these awards possible and provides tremendous, invaluable support for today’s nursing students.
