Donor Stories
We are so very grateful for the excellent care and generous support given by Dr. Nancy Gideon of Beacon Pediatrics and Dr. Jeffrey Hawtof of Beebe Primary Care Rehoboth and the R. Randall Rollins Center for Medical Education. Dr. Gideon and Dr. Hawtof were two of the very first members of the Beebe Medical Foundation's 1916 Club. They have also supported the Foundation's most recent campaigns: I Believe in Beebe and Sussex Supports Beebe. They are also members of the Shaw Legacy Society, including Beebe in their wills and estate plans.
The Shaw Legacy Society is named for Benjamin F. And Hellen M. Shaw, Wilmington residents who had a summer home in Rehoboth Beach. They met Beebe founders Dr. James Beebe, Sr. and Dr. Richard Beebe as patients at Beebe's medical clinic located in a cottage on Rehoboth Avenue. Mr. Shaw, who had a long history of association with the Delaware Hospital in Wilmington, recognized the need for healthcare facilities near his summer home. Through their $100,00 donation to Beebe in 1921, the Shaw family sowed the first seeds of philanthropy that would become vital to Beebe's success. This first gift funded the construction of the first Beebe Hospital. The Shaw Legacy Society was established to recognize donors who have remembered Beebe Healthcare in their will or estate plan. Members invest in Beebe's mission to provide the best care - close to home - and extend their support by making a planned legacy gift with lasting impact.
