Beebe Announces Two DAISY Awards Winners, Recognizing the Value of Nursing Excellence
Beebe Healthcare recently presented DAISY awards to two outstanding nurses who are going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure positive care experiences for their patients.
Jillian Hyland, RN, was nominated by a patient who experienced many medical issues and challenges while she was admitted to Beebe’s Medical Surgical Unit. Her commitment to providing outstanding, patient-centered care was clear. The patient understands precisely how important the role of a nurse is, as a nurse herself.
“Jillian was superior in her time management, nursing skills, and critical thinking skills,” the patient noted in her nomination.
“She would be the nurse I would request for anyone in need of high level of care. I am very discerning of the skills and care that were offered to me and my loved ones, as a nurse myself.”
Shane Green, RN, was nominated following a patient’s positive experience in Beebe’s Emergency Department. He demonstrated exceptional care, compassion, and support during a family’s medical emergency – bringing calm and comfort to otherwise intense and stressful moments.
“Despite the seriousness of the situation, Shane maintained a lighthearted, jovial demeanor that eased my fears when I needed it the most,” the patient said in submitting their DAISY award nomination. “His presence made a tremendous difference. He treated me like a person, not just a patient. I will never forget his care, kindness, and professionalism.”
DAISY awards are presented on a monthly basis at Beebe in memory of a man named J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of an autoimmune disease in the late 1990s. Patrick’s family was incredibly grateful for the compassion demonstrated by his nurses, and founded the DAISY program as a way of giving back; it encourages patients across the country to thank nurses for making a difference in their lives.
Both nurses received certificates and hand-carved Healer’s Touch sculptures, inscribed with the words “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.”
