Beebe Healthcare First in Delaware to Offer Advanced Heart Testing for Patients with Unexplained Chest Pain
Beebe Healthcare is the first hospital in Delaware to offer the CoroFlow Cardiovascular System, an advanced diagnostic technology that allows interventional cardiologists to evaluate not only the heart’s large coronary arteries, but also its smallest blood vessels.
For patients, that can mean getting clearer answers about unexplained chest pain or shortness of breath that have persisted despite previous testing. CoroFlow helps physicians evaluate how well blood is moving through the heart’s coronary circulation. Problems in the heart’s smallest vessels can contribute to symptoms even when a traditional angiogram does not show a significant blockage.
The findings can help physicians diagnose conditions such as coronary microvascular dysfunction, or CMD, and develop a more targeted treatment plan.
“We are continuing to make important investments in cardiology care so that patients can receive advanced services right here at their local, community-based hospital,” said Ehtasham Qureshi, MD, board-certified interventional cardiologist at Beebe. “CoroFlow gives us answers when a patient presents with symptoms, but their angiogram looks normal. It allows us to build treatment plans based on a firm diagnosis and reduces questions or uncertainty. We are proud to be the first in Delaware to offer it.”
Patients experiencing persistent or unexplained chest pain, angina, or shortness of breath can talk with their cardiologist about whether this testing may be appropriate for them.
The availability of CoroFlow at Beebe marks another advancement for the healthcare system’s growing Cardiovascular Institute, under the leadership of interventional cardiologists Mouhanad Freih, MD, and Dr. Qureshi, who led the planning and implementation of the program alongside the cardiovascular team.
Previously, Beebe patients requiring this type of testing were transferred to an academic medical center in the Washington, D.C. area. Now, patients can receive this advanced assessment closer to home in Beebe’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
CoroFlow was developed by Coroventis and is used with the PressureWire X guidewire from Abbott.
